Teaching Philosophy

         In my mind I have only, successful taught my students when they can apply their knowledge.  By increasing learners, abilities to not on only learn new information, but question then syntheses that information into their lives, we guarantee their ability to excel within college as well as, the workforce. To ensure that the students fully comprehend information and its use in their lives learners should be required to articulate this with their instructor during discussions boards based on the Socrates method.  Without application the learner is not capable of completely understand the information.  Therefore, the instructor should then re-teach the information utilizing a new technique encompassing different learning styles.

 Furthermore, without the ability to question information learners apply the new information gained to preexisting knowledge they cannot reach the pinnacle of Bloom’s Taxonomy highest level of learning.  This level of understanding and synthesizing information into ones live is a key to insuring lesson learned will retain with the learners for years to come.  This level of understanding must be cultivated with critical thinking exercises such as answering probing open-ended questions. 

For my students to benefit from this knowledge they not only need to demonstrate their comprehension, through activities and written assignments but as well ,through the successful application of the knowledge in day-to-day life.  To ensure that they do fully comprehend information and its use in their lives they will be required to articulate this with me during discussions boards as well. 

 Within the classroom, I personally am willing to entertain my students with personal stories and a golden rule philosophy.  By treating all my students, as I would like to be treated it inspires my students to follow this morality rule in their lives as well.  I also, think that adding an atmosphere of fun I encourage students to enjoy their education and welcome them to allow their personalities shine.  My students then can expect to learn about the educational system, learning styles and how best to teach them, while utilizing the most current technology tools available to insure students retention and application of their lesson, teaching philosophies and career options within this field, within an entertaining, informative and comfortable atmosphere.

As well, the use of technology to educate students is very important within my teaching.  By utilizing all that technology has given us we can increase teaching techniques and increase students retention of the information.  By having students articulate their skills and knowledge through discussion boards, it also increases their collaboration with other students as well as, their critical thinking skills.  Furthermore, through technology students can re-teach themselves to guarantee their comprehension of the information.  Also through teaching and learning with technology distance learners can gain all the information on ground students can gain while practicing their new skills within the food and beverage industry while they learn.

To ensure that I continue to grow as an educator I not only will continue my personal education.  I will also, continue attending professional development through professional associations.  Having a dedication to not only my career field I also have a passion for knowledge and will seek the opportunity to learn more when given the chance.
